THE CATTLE VET
The Cattle Vet is an independent and forward thinking veterinary practice serving Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion. We specialise in cattle, but service all livestock on your farm.
ABOUT US
The Cattle Vet was founded by Richard Cumming to deliver the highest possible service to cattle farmers of west Wales.
Richard Cumming grew up in West Wales helping his mother run a small farming enterprise. Over time the business has evolved into a pedigree herd of Simmental cows based in Carmarthenshire, Wales. This love for cattle is the driving force behind his veterinary career. Richard loves nothing more than working with farmers to help them achieve their goals.
SERVICES
Exceeding Your Expectations
FERTILITY VISITS
Checking cows for pregnancy provides vital information for your farm. Accurate calving dates are vital for planning the transition period. If a cow turns out not to be in calf after breeding then we can examine the reproductive tract of the cow and treat any issues. Assessment and treatment of cows that have not been seen in heat is also essential to maintain production.
HERD HEALTH
Assessing and monitoring the performance of your herd is an essential part of our service.
Any problems your herd may have can be assessed by one of our experienced vets. We will work closely with you and your other advisors to find out what the problem is and then help guide you to correct this problem.
BULL BREEDING SOUNDNESS EXAM
When using a bull to achieve pregnancies it's important to know he is up to the task. Ideally we perform this 6 weeks before breeding starts. This isn't just important in newly purchased bulls. The occurrence of subfertility is common between breeding periods. By finding this out before the cows start repeating could save you a lot of money!
Also pre-sale exam and certification of young bulls gives buyers confidence when purchasing your bull.
Foot Trimming
Jake is the practices new foot trimmer, currently working towards his RAU level 4 qualification. He is capable of high level therapeutic trims, bringing lame cows back from the brink, while also providing routine foot trimming services to reduce the occurrence of lame cows. He works closely with the vet team to be able to help provide bespoke plans to help manage your herds mobility.
